Hospital Breaks Ground

Groundbreaking ceremonies were held Sunday on a state-of-the-art medical facility at Loma Linda University Health.

The project will consist of two towers, a new adult hospital and an expanded children’s hospital, according to a statement released by the university.

More than 3,000 people looked on as university and community dignitaries stuck shovels into the dirt. The project, which will be named after Dennis and Carol Troesh, the couple that donated $100 million toward it, is expected to be completed in 2020.

More than $225 million has raised so far, with the final tab expected to be around $360 million, according to the statement.

“The new Loma Linda University Medical Center and expanded Children’s Hospital … will be an immediately recognizable icon for our region,” said Dr, Richard H. Hart, president of Loma Linda University Health, in the statement. “More importantly, it will exemplify the best in medical expertise and compassionate whole person care as we transform lives in this region and around the world, toward a healthier tomorrow.”

The project is part of Vision 2020, an overall upgrade of the Loma Linda University Healthy campus. The hospital for adults will be longer than a football field and 16 stories tall, making it the tallest building in San Bernardino County, according to the statement.
