Riverside’s annual Fourth of July fireworks show at La Sierra Park is back on.
The show, which was to have been cancelled for budget reasons, will be staged thanks to action taken by city council members Jim Perry and John Burnard, according to a statement released Monday.
Perry and Burnard have offered to pay for half the cost of the $28,000 show out of their council budgets. City staff is working to find money to cover the rest of the show’s cost.
The show has become a popular event for residents on the west side of the city. It was placed in jeopardy by the $10.6 million budget deficit in the city’s current budget, which required all city departments to cut their budgets by four percent, according to the statement.
