Palm Springs Mayor Robert Moon, along with leaders from the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, attended a special White House reception hosted by President Barack Obama.
The event, held June 8, celebrated LGBT Pride Month, according to a statement posted on the city’s website.
Moon, who paid for the trip out of his own pocket, was part of a group that spoke briefly with the president. He also met with Sen. Barbara Boxer during his stay.
Palm Springs is known for being one of the most diverse and inclusive cities in the United States. It’s consistently ranked high by the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index Scorecard for providing quality service to the LBGT community, according to the statement.
