Greg Devereaux is stepping down as San Bernardino County’s chief executive officer.
Devereaux, 65, announced recently that he will retire by June 30, the end of the county’s fiscal year, according to a statement.
Devereaux has spent nearly 40 years in public service, 25 of them in the Inland Empire. Before joining the county in February, 2010, Devereaux was city manager in Fontana and Ontario.
“I wish to thank the Board of Supervisors, all of the county’s employees and the entire community for the opportunity to serve in this capacity,” Devereaux said in the statement. “It has been a great privilege.”
When he was hired, Devereaux became the county’s ninth chief executive officer in the previous 12 years. When he steps down, Devereaux will have held that position for seven years, making him the longest serving county CEO in two decades.
Besides consulting with various local and regional government agencies, Devereaux will spend the next three years advising his successor and the board on issues affecting the county, according to the statement.
