Two officials with the Riverside Community College District have been selected to take part in the National Science Foundation’s Mentor-Connect program.
Robert Loya, an assistant professor of business administration at Moreno Valley College, and Sherry Stone, the district’s coordinator of safety and emergency planning, will both participate in the program, according to a district release.
Mentor-Connect is designed to help community college faculty develop grant funds from the foundation’s Advanced Technological Education program.
District officials have specific ideas for the funding they will seek, Loya said.
“Our grant envisions opening pathways for students who are career-minded in the area of homeland security or information,” Loya said in the release. “With all the problems we are seeing in society today, the need for training people in these areas is of great importance.”
