Shopping mall to display art works

Montclair Place, formerly known as Montclair Plaza, is venturing into the art world.

This week, Chaffey College art students began painting an outside mural that depicts the San Gabriel Mountains north of the mall, according to a statement.

That project, which will be overseen by Claremont artist Chris Trueman, is the start of ART WORKS, a year-long celebration of the mall’s long-planned renovation. It will be painted on the triangular wall of the shopping mall’s parking deck, which faces west.

“We chose to represent one of Montclair’s most distinguishing aspects; the mountain range, which serves as a backdrop and ever present landmark visible from most vantage points in the city, reminding the community of the beautiful place in which we live,”  Trueman, an international exhibiting artist, said in the statement.

“There is no better way to begin this art series than with these talented student artists from our community.”

ART WORKS is being curated by John Wolf Advisory of Los Angeles, which helps corporations and other clients put together art collections. Future projects will be both inside and outside the mall and will include urban artwork, sculpture, music and dance along with digital and culinary art, according to the statement.
