California recorded a 4.7 percent unemployment rate in June, while losing an estimated 1,400 non-agricultural jobs, according to data released Friday.
The unemployment rate, which was unchanged from May, matched the record low recorded in November-December 2000, the state Employment Development Department.
By comparison, the national unemployment rate in June was 4.4 percent, and employers added approximately 222,000 non-agricultural jobs during that time.
Despite the job loss, California has added more than 2.5 million jobs since the economic expansion began in February 2010.
Locally, Riverside and San Bernardino counties recorded a combined 5.5 percent unemployment rate in June, up from a revised 4.5 percent in May. The two-county region lost about 4,100 non-farm jobs in June, according to the department.
