OIA passenger, cargo counts keep climbing

Passenger traffic at Ontario International Airport was up  8.2 percent in August compared with August 2016, according to data released Wednesday.

The airport served 387,351 passengers last month, up from 357,854 one year before, the Ontario International Airport Authority reported.

Domestic passenger traffic last month totaled 375,109, up from 344,676, an 8.8 percent increase year-over-year.

AeroMexico and Volaris, Ontario International’s two international carriers, accommodated 12,242 passengers last month, down from 13,178 exactly one year earlier, a decline of 7.1 percent.

Despite that one-month hiccup, international passenger rose 3.7 percent during the first eight months while domestic traffic rose 7.1 percent, an overall increase of seven percent.

More than 55,700 tons of cargo freight was handled at Ontario International during August, a year-over-year increase of nearly 17 percent.

Close to 400,000 tons of cargo freight was handled during the first eight months of the year, an increase of 14.6 percent year-over-year, according to the airport authority.
