New York Times columnist Thomas Edsall is scheduled to speak Oct. 12 at UC Riverside.
Edsall, who spent 25 years as a national reporter for the Washington Post before joining the Times in 2011, will speak on “Politics in the Era of Donald Trump,” according to a statement on the university’s website.
Currently a journalism professor at Columbia University, Edsall has written extensively about last year’s presidential election. He has argued that many swing voters voted for Trump because of a fear of losing their socioeconomic status, a factor that ultimately lead to a Republican victory.
During his lecture, Edsall will examine a number of topics, including the regulating and allocating of resources, social insurance programs, taxes and the deficit, according to the statement.
Edsall is scheduled to speak from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Interdisciplinary South building, Room 1113. For more information call (951) 827-1287.
