Inland Empire housing nonprofit receives grant

A local nonprofit dedicated to neighborhood revitalization has received a grant from the Wells Fargo Housing Foundation.

The San Bernardino-based Neighborhood Housing Services of the Inland Empire is one of 47 nonprofits throughout the United States to receive a Wells Fargo grant, according to a statement released Tuesday.

The foundation gave a total of $6 million to those entities through its 2017 Priority Markets Program, which seeks to help low and moderate-income households achieve home ownership through community revitalization.

It did not say how much each agency received, or when the money will be distributed. Officials with Neighborhood Housing Services could not be reached for comment.

Since its founding in 1993, the foundation has invested more than $190 million – including $20 million last year – in affordable housing initiatives. Its volunteers have spent an estimated 4.7 million hours rehabilitating or building nearly 7,100 homes, according to the statement.
