Academic Strike Vote to be Revealed

The results of a strike vote by California State University faculty members will be revealed Wednesday.

The vote, which was held for 10 days last month on all 23 Cal State campuses, attracted strong turnout at Cal State San Bernardino, said Marcia Marx, a professor of sociology and ethnic studies there.

“We had a heavy turnout here and I understand we had a good turnout on all of our campuses, although I can really only speak for our own,” said Marx, who is president of the local chapter of the California Faculty Association.

Faculty members are seeking a pay increase that would make their pay comparable to other universities and that would allow them to keep up with  routine cost-of-living increases. About 26,000 faculty members, including 600 at Cal State San Bernardino, were eligible to vote.

Whether or not the faculty members walk off the job will be announced during a morning conference call, Marx said.
