Paul Alvarado has been named Palm Springs fire chief.
Currently Long Beach’s assistant fire chief, Alvarado is scheduled to take over early next month, according to a statement by Palm Springs.
He replaces J. Kevin Nalder, who resigned in August.
Alvarado began his career as a firefighter and paramedic in 1997. He has been Long Beach’s assistant fire chief since 2018.
Before that, he was a firefighter with the North Las Vegas Fire Department and the Northrop Aircraft Division.
“Paul Alvarado is an outstanding leader with an exceptional background in firefighting and executive leadership at one of the most respected fire departments in the nation,” said Scott Stiles, Palm Springs city manager, in the statement. “His years of experience will serve us well in Palm Springs.”
