“America: Imagine the World Without Her”

I had the opportunity to watch Dinesh D’Souza’s latest film “America: Imagine the World Without Her” in theaters now. I recommend everyone to watch this film as it is just as entertaining as it is historically accurate, insightful and thought provoking. He opens the movie with a fascinating thought: America is an idea. I had Earl Harris and Dan Gilcrest from AM590 KTIE as guests on my radio show last week and we discussed the movie at length and all agreed that it debunks the myths of how America is being portrayed by the progressives, and that America is the great hope of this world based on the principles she was founded upon.

The thought that America is an idea was presented by singer Bono in the movie, who maintains that America isn’t just a country, but embodies freedom and independent liberties that has enabled her to make a positive impact on the rest of the world. And it is capitalism that raises impoverished countries out of poverty like China and India. This is what has driven this country for the last 250 years and now the Democrats are criticizing that same capitalistic ideology and embracing nationalism.

Capitalism creates an environment that encourages people to break through the glass ceiling, to innovate and create, but in a socialistic climate there is no incentive to do so. One of the great things about the movie is that D’Souza allows the opposition to speak freely and afterwards presents facts that debunk those ideas. All of his positions are supported by facts, all of which are listed on his website.

This government is continuously imposing itself on its citizenry through wire tapping, politically charged law enforcement and heavy-handed efforts by prosecutors to get guilty pleas with threats of maximum sentences for having opposing ideas. The masses are getting their information through talking points, which disguises true knowledge. We deserve to know and spread the truth, which is what this movie sets out to do.

One of the myths presented by progressives is that America is a conquering nation, one that imposes our imperialism on the rest of the world. If this were true, wouldn’t we have used the atomic bomb wherever we chose to acquire more territory? Japan wanted to conquer, so did Hitler, and it was America that fought against it. If there was no America, who would have stopped those forces? If we were conquerors we wouldn’t have left Iraq nor given Mexico back. We kept Texas and Arizona because the citizenry of those states were fighting a tyrant.

Why aren’t we teaching our students these facts? Because education is based around Howard Zinn’s history textbook A People’s History of the United States published in 1980 that aims to provide other perspectives on American history, depicting the struggles of Native Americans against European and U.S. conquest and expansion, slaves against slavery and unionists and other workers against capitalists, and African Americans for civil rights. These are perspectives that are being taught to kids today, NOT the facts. It’s used as an alternative to standard textbooks in many high school and college history courses, and I have to ask why that is. Zinn’s book revised history, taken out truths, and continues to have a negative impact on students’ view of this country. They are ashamed and clueless about what being an American truly means. When I went to school and learned from untainted history books I was extremely proud of being an American.

D’Souza addresses the slavery issue. Yes, our Founding Fathers were slave owners, but when they wrote that all men were created equal, the African American was included in that. They knew the issue of slavery would have to be dealt with eventually, but what was at hand was the Revolutionary War, they had to get through that war first before the Civil War.

These are history lessons that our kids should be learning. The revisionists have had their day with the history and the brainwashing needs to cease. We need to return to teach what this country was founded upon. This movie isn’t anti-Obama. He’s a product of the progressive platform started by Saul Alinsky that began seeping into American ideology since the 60’s. He wanted this to be a socialist country and didn’t like how good America was. FYI: Hillary Clinton wrote her thesis on Alinsky, so if you think that we would be getting another Bill in the White House by her election, think again.

The principles of what our Founding Fathers put in place is what makes America great, and sadly we’re slipping farther away from those principles. I strongly urge you to watch “America: Imagine the World Without Her” and come away with a better knowledge of what America truly stands for and pride for being an American.

Ed Hoffman is the host of the Main Event on AM590 which airs Saturday 9:30AM- 10:30AM and Sunday 4:00PM- 5:00PM.
