Apple Valley does some serious cleaning out

Apple Valley recently did some spring cleaning.

Then town’s code enforcement department collected an estimated 43 tons of trash, debris and recyclable material, according to a statement.

One hundred and sixty one people participated in the six-hour collection, which was held March 10 at Kiowa and Tussing Ranch roads.

The event, which was free and open to all Apple Valley residents, was paid for in part with a grant from CalRecycle, a state agency that promotes reducing waste, along with recycling and buying recycled products.

Participation, and the amount of debris collected, has nearly doubled since last November, when the cleanups became town-wide instead of being held in neighborhoods, Code Enforcement Supervisor Jonathan Wood said in the statement.

The next cleanup is scheduled for May 5.
