Apple Valley reopens parks, some rec programs

Apple Valley has reopened its parks and ballfields and some recreation programs.

The change was done in accordance with revised guidelines issued Monday by the state Department of Public Health, according to a statement on the town’s website.

One recreation program that is back in play is the Distance-Learning Day Camp, which gives support to parents and guardians trying to provide a safe environment for their children during the workday.

Camp capacity has been reduced to ensure proper social distancing, and staff members have been trained on cleaning and sanitizing procedures, which will be conducted throughout the day.

Town recreation staff will support children working on their school curriculum, but they do not tutor and they are not meant to replace a child’s primary teachers.

Day Camp will be offered as long as possible or until in-person school is back in session, according to the statement.

Youth sports clubs and programs will be allowed to use the town’s parks and ballfields, but six-foot social distancing guidelines will remain in place. Face coverings are required unless the activity is outdoors and players are adhering to social distancing guidelines.

To avoid crowds, formal games and tournaments are not allowed, according to the statement.
