Apple Valley shuts down animal shelter

Apple Valley has closed its animal shelter through the end of the year.

The shutdown, effective Dec. 5, means animal control officers “will respond to emergencies only, including injured or stray animals, cruelty and neglect complaints, bite complaints and dangerous and aggressive dog complaints,” according to a statement on the city’s website.

Officers will continue to provide help to animals within their care, but adoption, return to owners, and rescue services will be available only by appointment.

Intake of animals also will be closed to the public, and owner turn-ins will not be accepted.

The town’s dog parks at Civic Center Park remain open. Local information will be updated on the Town’s Facebook page and website at applevalley.org. Email questions to [email protected].
