The debate over a proposed mega-industrial project in Moreno Valley continued Thursday, with supporters and opponents engaging in a sometimes heated exchange before the city’s planning commission.
This was the second time the commission has heard debate on World Logistics Center, a logistics development large enough to cover 700 football fields that, if
approved, would be built on the city’s east side.
No action was taken, but the seven-member commission did agree to resume the hearing Tuesday, after hearing from approximately 70 speakers.
Just as they did two weeks ago, supporters of the project highlighted the estimated 20,000 jobs the project will bring to the community, while opponents spoke of their concerns about the noise, traffic and pollution the development could create.
Iddo Benzeevi, president and chief executive officer of Highland Fairview, the project’s developer, also presented slides and spoke on the project’s behalf during a 40-minute presentation.
Besides the jobs it will create, Benzeevi stressed the project’s potential for being a hub to the city’s growing logistics industry.
