Big Lots, the discount retail chan, will close 65 stores in California, including seven in the Inland Empire.
That will reduce the company to 34 California stores, most of which are in Southern California, according to multiple reports based mostly on a lengthy Securities and Exchange Commission filing.
The company listed several factors, including inflation, for the store closings. First quarter sales were down nearly 10 percent, and its most recent earnings report was a $205 million net loss, the report stated.
The Inland Empire stores slated for closure are in Beaumont, Chino, Corona, Fontana, Redlands, Riverside and Victorville.
Based in Columbus, Ohio, Big Lots operates more than 1,300 stores in 48 states, according to the company’s website.
