Black Thanksgiving?

The Black Friday wars among major retailers keep heating up.

One day after Target said it was joining the list of retailers that will open 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving, Walmart – which was one of the first retailers to announce that it would be open on Thanksgiving – said it will open at 6 p.m. on Nov. 28, right after most people will be finishing their turkey, cranberries and stuffing.

“Black Friday is our day – our Super Bowl – and we’re ready to prove once again that no one does it better than Walmart,” said Bill Simon, Walmart’s president and chief executive officer, in a statement posted on the company’s website.

Walmart will offer various discounts starting on Thanksgiving night and into Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving and one of the busiest shopping days of the year.

The world’s largest retailer will increase its television inventory 65 percent compared with last year, and it will double its stock of computer tablets. Those are two of the most popular Christmas shopping items, according to the statement.

Walmart will also bring back its one-hour guarantee program that it started last year, in which shoppers are assured the availability of certain items during a one-hour period. That program is being expanded from three items to 21 items, according to the statement.
