Actress Cate Blanchett will receive the Desert Palm Achievement Award at next month’s Palm Springs International Film Festival.
Blanchett is being recognized for her performance in Tár, the story of orchestra conductor Lydia Tár released in October, according to statement on the city’s website.
“Cate Blanchett is truly one of the best actresses of this generation, whose performances are always extraordinary no matter the role,” said festival Chairman Harold Matzner in the statement. “In her latest film Tár, Cate embodies Lydia Tár as an orchestra conductor at the height of her career. There is no one better suited for this role, and it is our honor to present the Desert Palm Achievement Award, to Cate Blanchett.”
The awards ceremony is scheduled to be held Jan. 5, at the Palm Springs Convention Center. The film festival will run through Jan. 16.
