Reconstruction of the Mt. Vernon Avenue Bridge in San Bernardino has resumed.
The project was delayed while BNSF Railway moved a building in their yard and some tracks so their trains could keep running while the bridge was worked on, according to a statement on the city’s website.
With that work completed, the San Bernardino County Transportation Agency can resume work on the bridge, which is expected to reopen next year.
During the next two to three weeks, utility work will take place between 2nd Street and Mt. Vernon Avenue and on the frontage road next to the bridge between 2nd and 3rd Streets.
Construction is expected to take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Omnitrans is offering free bus service to local residents until the work is completed.
The rebuilt bridge will reconnect the southern and northern sections of west San Bernardino, according to the statement.
