Brown Set to Approve Minimum Wage Hike

Gov. Jerry Brown is expected to sign legislation Monday that will raise California’s minimum wage to $15 a hour.

The measure, which passed the state Senate and Assembly Thursday, will put California at the head of a national effort to improve working class wages while increasing the pay of an estimated 5.6 million workers statewide, according to reports.

Only two Democrats voted against the increase, and no Republicans voted for it. The increase, which has prompted strong criticism from elements of the business community, will be phased in during the next six years.

California’s current $10-an-hour minimum wage is highest in the country, along with Massachusetts.
