Bruno steps down as Colton fire chief

Ray Bruno has retired as Colton’s fire chief, ending 30 years of service with the city.

Bruno began working with the Colton Fire Department in 1996 as a firefighter-paramedic, responding to fires, medical calls and other emergencies, according to a statement on Colton’s website.

Bruno worked as an engineer, captain, battalion chief/fire marshal, and deputy fire chief before being named head of the department in 2024.

“Chief Bruno has given his career to the city of Colton, culminating in his fine leadership as fire chief,” City Manager Bill Smith said in the statement. “It has been my honor working alongside him, and I wish him the best in his well-earned retirement.”

Deputy Fire Chief Justin Weems, who has worked for the department for 20 years, has replaced Bruno, according to the statement.
