Members of the union that represents California State University teachers have approved a contract that will raise their pay by 10 percent within the next six months.
The agreement, which 76 percent of the association’s membership voted to accept, is expected to be ratified by Cal State’s board of trustees next month, according to a statement released Feb. 19 by the union.
“We thank members for their solidarity and courage to press CSU management for better faculty working and student learning conditions,” said Charles Toombs, faculty association president, in the statement. “We look forward to working together to continue our advocacy for an equitable CSU.”
The vote ended eight months of contentious negotiations that included two strikes. In addition to the pay raise, the agreement increases paid parental leave, pledges to improve students-to-counselor ratios, and addresses workload relief, according to the statement.
