California added 28,300 non-agricultural jobs in March, and recorded a 5.3 percent unemployment rate for the second consecutive month, according to a recent report.
The state has added jobs for 47 consecutive months while adding 3,062,700 jobs since April 2020, the state Employment Development reported.
That’s an average of 62,500 jobs added per month. Seven of California’s 11 industry sectors added jobs in March, with private education and health services (13,600) adding the most jobs for the third consecutive month.
Construction added 4,600 jobs in March. That sector, which is vital to the state’s economy, added nearly 34,000 more jobs in the first quarter of 2024 than it added in 2023.
Manufacturing lost 5,300 jobs between February and March, the largest reduction of any sector during that time.
In the Inland Empire, non-agricultural employers added 5,800 jobs, to a total of 1,692,300 jobs. The Inland region recorded a 5.1 percent unemployment rate in March, down from a revised 5.5 percent in February, the department reported.
