Calvert lauded for retail support

Rep. Ken Calvert has been named one of the National Retail Federation’s “Heroes of Main Street.”

Calvert, R-Corona, was among 289 members of congress who were recognized for their support of the retail industry, according to a statement released Tuesday by the Washington, D.C.-based federation.

All were credited with supporting policies favorable to the retail industry regarding international trade, patent reform, tax reform and health care. They were also recognized for backing workforce policies “that work for employers and employees alike,” according to the statement.

“NRF’s Heroes or Main Street have shown through their voting records that they care about retailers, big and small, and value the role these businesses play in communities around the country,” said Matthew Shay, the federation’s president and chief executive officer, in a statement. “They show their commitment to a prosperous Main Street and to the long-term growth of retail, our nation’s largest private-sector employer.”

Two other GOP congressmen whose districts include parts the Inland Empire, Duncan Hunter and Ed Royce, were also named to the “Heroes” list.

None of the five Democrats who represent the Inland region – Mark Takano, Paul Ruiz, Norma Torres, Judy Chu and Brad Sherman – were recognized by the federation, which is the world’s largest retail trade association.
