Ronnel Capacia has been promoted to assistant executive chef at Pechanga Resort Casino.
Capacia, who began working at the resort 20 years ago as a cafeteria buser, will oversee more than 150 culinary employees, according to a statement on the resort’s website.
“This is a dream come true,” Capacia said in the statement. “It’s exciting and humbling that my team believes in me to help lead Pechanga’s food and beverage division.”
A native of Guam, Capacia came to the United States in 2001, settling with his family in Murrieta and San Diego. He attended the San Diego Culinary Art Institute while working full-time at the resort.
Since then Capacia has held multiple positions within the resort’s food and beverage department, including head chef at Kelsey’s, a sports-themed restaurant at the resort, according to the statement.
