Cardenas Markets announces charitable donations

Cardenas Markets is donating a total of $35,000 to charitable organizations that help children.

Those organizations include Children’s Fund, Olive Crest, Phoenix Children’s Hospital, University Medical Children’s Hospital in Las Vegas and Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland, according to the Ontario-based Hispanic supermarket chain.

The donations are meant to honor Dia Del Nino, a tradition observed every April 30 in Mexico that stresses the importance of loving and accepting children. The money is being distributed by Cardenas Markets Foundation, a stand-alone nonprofit.

“For Cardenas Markets Foundation, Dia Del Nino is about taking action to advocate for children’s livelihood and sense of well-being in every community where we operate,” said Adam Salgado, the foundation’s president and chief marketing officer, in a statement.

Cardenas Markets operates 59 locations throughout California, Nevada and Arizona. It is one of the largest Hispanic grocery store chains in the United States, according to the statement.
