The Chaffey College Industrial Technical Learning Center has received a $1.2 million grant that will provide free training to low-income and underrepresented students.
The funding is being provided by the Division of Apprenticeship Standards, which is part of the California Department Industrial Relations, according to a statement on the college’s website.
Out of 39 applicants, Chaffey College was the only one to receive the maximum award.
Chaffey will be able to train 100 students between 16- and 24-years-old. All will come from different backgrounds, including people formerly incarcerated, current and former foster youths, youth parents and disabled individuals.
Training programs will last 16 weeks, with each student receiving a $6,000 stipend. InTech will show students how to compile a resume, handle a job interview and search for a job. Students must be willing to enter the workforce immediately after graduating, according to the statement.
