Starting in August, American Airlines will offer flights from Ontario International Airport to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.
The Fort Worth-based airline began selling tickets Monday for the twice-a-day flights, according to a statement on Ontario International’s website.
Planes will depart Ontario International at 11:40 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. Return flights will arrive at Ontario International at 12:14 p.m. and 10:39 p.m.
The Chicago flights are another sign that Ontario International is recovering from COVID-19, which continues to depress air travel worldwide, according to Mark Thorpe, the airport authority’s chief executive officer.
“It is welcome news that American and other air carriers are including Ontario in their recovery plans, but it is not a surprise,” Thorpe said in the statement. “Ontario was the fastest growing U.S. airport before the COVID-19 pandemic, and it’s now the fastest-recovering airport in California and the third-quickest to restore flight services in the U.S.”
American Airlines already flies to Phoenix and Dallas-Forth Worth from Ontario International. It will serve the Chicago route with Boeing 737-800 aircraft that can carry 172 passengers in a three-class cabin, according to the statement.
