Tom DeSantis has been named Moreno Valley’s city manager, the city has announced
DeSantis replaces Michelle Dawson, who was fired Friday during a closed-door city council session Tuesday.
No explanation has been given for Dawson’s dismissal, which came three months after she received a five percent raise and had her contract extended for one year, to May 2020, according to a published report.
DeSantis, 55, began working for Moreno Valley six years ago. He was human resources director and administrative services director before being named assistant city manager in 2013.
“It is with great pride that we appoint Tom DeSantis as our city manager,” Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez said in a statement released Wednesday. “Tom has provided exemplary service to the City of Moreno Valley for the last six years. He is a dedicated member of our team.”
DeSantis began his 27-year career in municipal government in Riverside, where he was public information officer. He also worked for San Bernardino County and was a chief of staff with the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors, according to the statement.
