City Installs Solar Technology

Rancho Cucamonga has installed solar panels at five city facilities.

Central Park, Epicenter Stadium and Sports Complex, Banyan Fire Station, Day Creek Fire Station and the city’s animal complex will all be fitted with the energy-saving devices by this summer, according to a statement on the city’s website.

The SolarRC Expansion Project, which is meant to reinforce the city’s commitment to renewable energy, will provide 1.8 megawatts of solar power. The program will prevent more than 33,700 metric tons of carbon dioxide from entering the local air supply, about the same as removing 7,100 automobiles from the road.

Installation of the panels began in February and will be completed this summer. Rancho Cucamonga officials expect the program to save the city approximately $7 million.

Several Rancho Cucamonga facilities already have solar panels, including the Biane Library, Corporate Yard, and City Hall, according to the statement.
