City looks to fill new committee

Beaumont is looking for volunteers to serve on the city’s recently formed financial committee.

The six-member Standing Financial Committee will be made up of five residents and a sixth seat to be filled by a business owner and/or resident, according to release issued by the city.

All members will be appointed by the City Council and will serve two-year terms.

The committee, which is expected to meet every two months, will advise the council on fiscal responsibility and recommend fiscal and investment policies, the release stated.

City officials hope to get enough applicants to get the matter on the council’s Nov. 17 agenda, said Ashley Starr, assistant to the city manager.

From there, all applicants will be interviewed and council members will make their selections.

“Anyone who is a resident or a business owner is welcome to apply,” Starr said. “Getting on the financial committee will be a lot like getting on the planning commission.”
