Moreno Valley has agreed to settle a $200,000 lawsuit filed by one of its former deputy city attorneys.
Paul Early, one of the three city officials laid off in 2013, alleged in the lawsuit that he was let go because he was prosecuting a former councilman for code enforcement violations, according to a report in The Press-Enterprise.
Early, former building official Anne Schneider and Code Compliance Manager Albert Brady alleged they were let go for enforcing regulation against Marcel Co, who resigned from the council in August 2013 after being arrested on fraud charges.
Co later plead guilty to bribery charges, the report stated.
Moreno Valley officials attributed the layoffs to budget cuts. The agreement, which was announced at the Jan. 6 council meeting, requires both sides not discuss the settlement except when required by law.
Neither side admitted any wrongdoing, according to the report.
