City to break ground on sports complex

Fontana will hold a groundbreaking ceremony next week on Central City Park, its much-anticipated sports facility.

The event, scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Oct. 17 at 8380 Cypress Ave., will mark the start of the 14.5-acre project behind the Cypress Community Center, according to a statement on the city’s website.

Central City Park will have two synthetic football-soccer fields and third synthetic field to be used only for soccer.

The facility will also have lights, horseshoe pits, a playground accessible to handicapped people, concession stands, a community garden and a connection to the Pacific Electric Trail.

The latter is a 21-mile stretch used by walkers, joggers, equestrians and bicycle riders that runs from Rialto to the Los Angeles County line at Claremont.

Construction on Central City Park is expected to begin early next year and be completed in 2020. For more information call (909) 350-6776.
