One of the country’s largest developers of logistics facilities is scheduled to go before the Moreno Valley City Council tonight with a cut-down version of a proposed development.
San Francisco-based ProLogis had proposed building six industrial buildings that combined would have covered about 2.2 million square feet, according to a report in The Press-Enterprise.
But the project, planned for a 122-acre site between Redlands Boulevard and Moreno Beach Drive south of the 60 Freeway, met with opposition from some city council members earlier this year.
They raised concerns about traffic and how that could hurt the city economically, while other opponents questioned adding more warehouses on the city’s east end.
The revised project eliminates two buildings and cuts the warehouse space to 1.5 million square feet, a 32 percent reduction. It would also reduce by about 1,200 the number of truck trips in and out of the facility every day, according to the report.
Also, 38 acres at the southeast end of the property would be zoned exclusively for residential – it’s currently zone for residential and business park development – enough to accommodate up to 126 single-family residential homes, the report stated.
