San Jacinto residents are about to find out if their city council is good on its word.
Council members are scheduled to vote Tuesday on whether most of the revenue generated from proposed utility tax will be spent on public safety, according to a report in The Press-Enterprise.
Council members have said that about 85 percent of the money from Measure CC will be used to pay for police and fire protection, both of which the city gets from Riverside County. All that remains is for the council to confirm its pledge and for city voters to pass the measure Nov. 4, according to the report.
Measure CC would levy as a much as a 6.5 percent surcharge on water, sewer, cable television, telephone service and trash collection. If passed, the measure is expected to raise $5.1 million during its first year, enough to prevent any cuts in city’s $18 million general fund, the report stated.
