Councilman hired by trade group

A Wildomar city councilman has been named vice president of public affairs in the Inland Empire by the California Apartment Association.

Ben J. Benoit, who began his new position last week, will concentrate primarily on advocating for the rental housing industry before various government entities, according to an association statement.

The association’s Inland Empire office covers all of Riverside and San Bernardino counties and the east end of Los Angeles County.“

“I’m ecstatic to have the opportunity to advocate for the rights of rental property owners, protecting them from onerous over-regulation, while at the same time insisting that members abide by the highest ethical standards,” Benoit said in the statement.

Benoit, who was elected to the city council in 2010, has served on a number of regional boards, including the Western Regional Council of Governments, of which he is currently a member.

He replaces Matt Buck, who is now vice president of public affairs for the association’s Orange County division.

The California Apartment Association is the largest apartment trade group in the United States. It represents owners, investors, developers, managers and suppliers of apartment communities, according to the statement.
