County office buildings are being leveled

A pair of buildings in downtown San Bernardino owned and operated by San Bernardino County are being torn down.

The Old Hall of Records at 172 W. 3rd St., and the Public Health building next door at 351 N. Mountain View Ave., were both damaged in a three-alarm fire two years ago, according to a statement on the county’s website.

Demolition is expected to last through the end of next year. Once that’s completed, the site will be used for parking while the county decides on a long-term use for the property.

Both structures were built during the 1960’s. The fire happened on a Sunday, so no county employees were injured.

Since the fire, the Hall of Records has operated out of a building at 222 W. Hospitality Lane.  Public Health, and the other offices in the Old Hall of Records were moved to other downtown office buildings, according to the statement.

County and City offices should all be Downtown. Near to City Hall and Court House.
