California State University professors and lecturers returned to work Jan. 23 after walking off the job for one day.
CSU officials and representatives from the California Faculty Association announced a tentative agreement Jan. 22 that raised wages, ending what was going to be a five-day strike, according to multiple reports.
“I am extremely pleased and deeply appreciative that we have reached common ground with C.F.A. that will end the strike immediately,” sad Mildred García, CSU chancellor, in a statement. “The agreement enables the C.S.U. to fairly compensate its valued, world-class faculty while protecting the university system’s long-term financial sustainability.”
The deal immediately increases salaries for all faculty by five percent retroactively to July 1. Another five percent raise is scheduled for July 1 of this year, and faculty members at the low end of the pay scale will immediately get a $3,000 raise, the reports stated.
