Cal State San Bernardino will begin accepting applications May 1 for its inaugural Master of Science in Physician Assistants program.
The program’s curriculum will combine classroom and real-world experience, with students starting their work with a course in community health and service, according to a statement on the university’s website.
Announced last year, classes will begin with 40 students who will be trained in a renovated facility on campus, and perform medical assessments virtually – a practice known as telemedicine – and in-person.
The program is meant primarily to address healthcare needs in Riverside and San Bernardino counties, said Sonia V. Otte, who started the program.
“I started with crafting a mission and vision and ensured that it aligns with the mission, vision, goals and values of Cal State San Bernardino and the surrounding community,” Otte said in the statement.
Otte started a similar program at the Keck Graduate Institute at the Claremont Colleges.
