CSUSB professor wins Mellon Foundation award

Marc Robinson, an assistant history professor at Cal State San Bernardino, has been named a Mellon Emerging Faculty Leader for 2022.

Robinson specializes in U.S. and African American history, with research that focuses on black student activism and the civil rights movement, according to a statement on the university’s website.

“Dr. Robinson is a vital and committed member of our department and university at large, and this award is no doubt reflective of his promise and his important contributions to civil rights history,” said Tiffany Jones, history department chair, in the statement.

“He has already built a formidable reputation both on and off campus. We are extremely happy for him.”

Financed by the Mellon Foundation and presented by The Institute for Citizens & Scholars, the emerging faculty leader awards recognize junior faculty members whose research focuses on contemporary American history, politics, culture, and society. Robinson, who began teaching at Cal State San Bernardino in 2018, is one of 10 U.S, scholars recognized this year, according to the statement.
