California State University San Bernardino will receive the 2023 Excellence & Innovation Award for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Leadership from the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.
The award will be presented in November at the association’s annual conference, which will be held in Chicago, according to a statement on the university’s website.
“I am incredibly proud that Cal State San Bernardino’s efforts to build a more equitable and inclusive campus for the diverse students, faculty, and staff who work here have been recognized by a national organization such as AASCU,” said university President Tomás D. Morales in the statement.
“We are a designated Hispanic-serving Institution and a minority-serving Institution, but recognizing this fact means that we need to act to provide a welcoming environment for all who choose to study and work here.”
The university will choose between an engraved award or a $500 donation to the university “in support of a scholarship fund, on-campus food pantry or [something] similar,” according to the statement.
