Diwan De La Torre has been named Cathedral City’s Firefighter of the Year for 2024.
De La Torre was recognized by Cathedral City Fire & Emergency Management Services for his “outstanding service, leadership, and dedication to the community,” according to a statement on the city’s website.
Since joining the department, De La Torre has trained firefighters, taught life-saving education and co-founded the Cathedral City Fire Cadet Program.
De La Torre received the award at the Feb. 24 council meeting.
“We are proud to name Diwan De La Torre as our Firefighter of the Year,” said Michael Contreras, Cathedral City’s fire chief, in the statement. “He is an exceptional firefighter, and a role model for our department and the community.”
