Desert hospital receives national accreditation

Palo Verde Hospital in Blythe has earned a full accreditation from one of the nation’s top accreditation organizations.

The three-year certification from DNV Healthcare USA Inc. means Palo Verde Hospital complies with all safety and quality standards required by the federal government, according to a statement on the hospital’s website.

The accreditation is the result of on-site surveys conducted over several months. The hospital must pass annual follow-up surveys to keep the certification.

Palo Verde Hospital is the only hospital in the greater Blythe area. It filed bankruptcy one year ago after years of financial instability, but its emergency room has remained open.

The accreditation is the first earned under the management agreement between the Palo Verde Healthcare District and Riverside County, which is running the hospital temporarily while the district looks for a permanent management company, according to the statement.
