Construction has begun on a 370,023-square-foot warehouse-distribution operation at the Southern California Logistics Airport in Victorville.
Walls were tilted up during a recent ceremony that was attended by Victorville and San Bernardino County officials, 70 construction workers and representatives from Stirling Development, according to a statement.
Stirling Development is based in Foothill Ranch. It’s responsible for developing the logistics airport – the former George Air Force Base – and converting that one-time military installation to civilian use.
The project, known as Distribution Centre 18, is expected to be completed this summer. It’s nearly 50 percent pre-leased to Plastipak Packaging Inc., which designs and manufactures rigid plastic containers for the food, beverage and consumer products industries.
Distribution Centre 18 is located on nearly 20 acres at the southeast corner of George Boulevard and Phantom West. Ultimately, the project is expected to create about 200 jobs, according to the statement.
Plastipak Packaging already occupies about 312,000 square feet at the logistics airport, including a 296,490-square-foot manufacturing facility.
An undisclosed company has agreed to occupy the rest of the building but has not yet signed a lease, according to the statement.
