Does Anybody Care?

By Ed Hoffman

I have a really hard time believing that people don’t care about what a corrupt leader Hillary Clinton has been over the course of her career, but that’s the message coming through in nationwide polls right now. It has me asking, “What do people care about?”

I can’t believe voters aren’t concerned about the Clinton Foundation (her mere “family charity” that funnels millions of dollars into her, Bill and Chelsea’s personal bank accounts to support their jet-setting lifestyles) being used as leverage for wealthy donors when she was Secretary of State – not to mention the $1,000,000 in charitable donations she made, according to her tax returns, went to that foundation. So in other words, the Clintons said, “Let’s make a $1 million donation to ourselves – I mean, to our charity. It saves us $500,000 in taxes and we still get to spend it on ourselves.” Why don’t people care about this?

Maybe I shouldn’t be, but I’m still shocked that people don’t care about her failure to save the four Americans who died on September 11, 2012 in Benghazi, Libya. And last but not least, I would hope that people who don’t care about anything else will at least question the way she’s enabled her husband’s predatory behavior against women for the past 40 years.

Did you know that Hillary’s campaign website has removed some of her remarks on believing and standing with sexual assault victims? Hmm, I wonder why that happened? In May, Hillary was asked, “If all rape victims should be believed, what about Juanita Broaddrick?” (For those who don’t know, this question is in reference to one of Bill’s most vocal accusers.) Her reply: “I would say that everybody should be believed at first, until they are disbelieved based on evidence.” Wow. So much for standing with women.

For some people, it doesn’t matter who Hillary is or what she does; it only matters what she says. And since she hasn’t had a press conference in almost a year, she hasn’t given herself much of an opportunity to say anything – other than what she says in her rallies, which typically amounts to nothing more than a lot of insults about Donald Trump. Meanwhile, Trump says a lot – and it all comes back to bite him. He shouldn’t be absolved of all responsibility, but he should be given the same amount of leniency that Hillary gets.

Last Thursday, Trump said at his North Carolina rally, “Sometimes you don’t choose the right words, or you say the wrong thing. I have done that – and believe it or not, I regret it…particularly where it may have caused personal pain. Too much is at stake for us to be consumed by these issues, but I can promise you this: I will always tell you the truth.” That’s good enough for me. Why? Because whenever Hillary Clinton’s lips are moving, she’s lying. And we should care about that.

While we’re on the topic of leniency, isn’t it fascinating that Barack Obama has been granted a free-and-clear pass for failing to visit the flooding in Louisiana? Now that Bush isn’t President, I guess nobody cares about flood victims. Just like they don’t care about gross corruption when the person in question is Hillary Clinton.
