Downtown Riverside Project to Get Started

Site preparation for the Imperial Lofts project in downtown Riverside is scheduled to start next week, which might mean an inconvenience or two for anyone who lives or works in that area.

All or part of a nearby sidewalk, alley and street near the Main Street Mall will have to be closed either full or part-time during the site preparation, according to a statement released by the city Thursday.

The project, which is being undertaken by Ratkovich Properties in Irvine, calls for the virtual demolition of the Imperial Hardware Building at University Avenue and Main Street. It will become retail stores and 91 ground level apartments.

Construction is expected to last 18 months, according to the statement.
