Extension of Clinton Keith Road nears completion

The extension of Clinton Keith Road from the 215 Freeway to Highway 79 is nearly finished.

The Riverside County Transportation Department started the $88 million project in 2001 after county officials acknowledged the need for a six-lane east-west corridor in southwest Riverside County, according to a statement on the county’s website.

The project was built in four phases, with funding whenever it became available.

Phase Four is now so close to being completed that the transportation department, Supervisor Chuck Washington, and other local dignitaries recently held a ceremonial ribbon cutting on the newly constructed French Valley Creek bridge.

“Riverside County is the fastest growing county in the state, and much of that growth has occurred in the third district,” said Washington, who represents that district, in the statement.

“This project will provide improved access to French Valley, Lake Skinner, and Wine Country for residents and visitors.”

The project’s final phase will extend Clinton Keith Road from Leon Road to Highway 79. It will connect with the Highway 79 and Benton Road intersection – becoming the intersection’s fourth leg – and is expected to open to traffic by December, according to the statement.
