Foundation will enhance Cal Poly’s fundraising

Cal Poly Pomona has established the Cal Poly Philanthropic Foundation, a nonprofit that will expand the school’s fundraising.

The foundation, which is part of the university’s strategic plan, will be able to accept gifts and grants that will help pay for scholarships, facilities, academic priorities and strategic programs, according to a statement.

“By broadening partnerships and deepening financial support, the philanthropic foundation will strengthen the university’s educational mission by increasing student scholarships, faculty research initiatives, classroom and lab renovations, and projects that benefit the economic vitality of the state and region,” said Dan Montplaisir, vice president for university advancement, in the statement.

In the past, all donations to the university have been managed by Cal Poly Pomona Foundation Inc., which is legally structured to manage entities like the school’s bookstore and conference center.

Because of that arrangement, it was not allowed to accept matching gifts from some corporations, which the new foundation will he allowed to do, according to the statement.
